GRAVIS FOOTWEAR

Gravis Footwear, a division of Burton Snowboards, enlisted our help for their launch of a new skateboarding-specific line. Over the course of two seasons, We worked with Gravis to develop and implement comprehensive campaigns. The line was characterized by a sleek, minimal design, and we carried that aesthetic through all marketing materials.

While many skate footwear brands at the time were using distressed and deconstructed visuals, we helped Gravis Skate achieve a more elevated and timeless brand positioning. They utilized the four-hole icon and wordmark, which were inspired by the four wheels and four holes on skateboards. From launching new catalog seasons to promoting specific team rider shoes, we developed themes, oversaw photo shoots, and designed materials for all marketing channels. Their approach was highly effective and contributed to Gravis gaining a significant market share. In fact, Gravis eventually became the Nike of Japan and eventually transitioned to being an exclusively Japanese brand. Our work on the catalogs was recognized by Communication Arts Magazine in the CA Design Annual 2012.
